SHARING the responsibility for kicking a winning score is paying dividends for Hawthorn, according to speedster Bradley Hill.
The Hawks have won their past four matches and currently sit in fourth spot on ladder.
In that time, no Hawk has kicked more than four goals in any game, while 18 different players have split the big sticks on one or more occasions.
“That’s the good thing about our forward line – even the midfielders can get forward (and make an impact),” Hill said.
“We share the ball around and there’s a number of boys who can get forward and kick goals.”
Hill again impressed with three majors from 16 disposals against the Bombers, combining with small forward Paul Puopolo to kick seven of the Hawks’ 16 majors.
He said a lift from the Hawks’ inside midfield brigade after half-time had been the catalyst for the Hawks win.
“We had to win the ball on the inside – they were hurting us there in the first half and the boys lifted in the second half of the game,” Hill said.
“It was good to get on the end of a few goals, but we won it inside the contest which made it easier for the boys on the outside and up forward.”
The 21-year-old has been happy with his season so far, but won’t be resting on his laurels.
“I was pretty happy with my performance, but you’ve got top keep improving.
“I just want to be improving each week and each year.”
The Hawks will be put to the test in the five weeks, when they play against fellow top-five sides Collingwood, Fremantle, Sydney Swans and West Coast Eagles and back-to-back winners Carlton.
Hill said the team’s objective was simple.
“We’ve got to try to win as many games as we can to give ourselves the best chance of being in the top four at the end of the year,” he said.
“That’s what we’re trying to do and it’s been good to have a few wins in a row.”
