Hawthorn key forward Mitch Lewis won’t be making the trip west this weekend, with the youngster appearing unlikely to prove his fitness ahead of Hawthorn’s Round 23 clash against the Eagles.
The 20-year-old sat out the Hawks’ Round 22 win over Gold Coast after failing to overcome a shoulder complaint.
Physical Performance Manager Luke Boyd said Lewis’ injury hadn’t quite recovered as quickly as the medical staff had anticipated.
“He probably hasn’t settled well enough for us to be willing to play him this week,” Boyd said.
“Given he is a young player, we don’t want to be taking too many risks with him and he won’t be making the trip west this weekend.”
Young Hawk Harry Morrison is set for a four to six week recovery period, after he broke his jaw in Box Hill’s win over the Northern Blues on Sunday.
He had surgery on the weekend and will be unavailable for selection for the remainder of the season.
Meanwhile defender Jarman Impey is one month into his recovery from a knee reconstruction.
Impey was in high spirits at the club on Tuesday after reaching the milestone.
“The surgery went really, really well,” Impey recalls.
“I’m happy with how it’s tracking so far and so are the physios.”
