Box Hill lost to Casey by 11 points in its third pre-season hit-out at Casey Fields on Sunday.
In the rivals’ first meeting since last year’s grand final, the Demons were able to get one back on the reigning premiers.
The game kicked off under upsetting circumstances, as newly-rookied defender Tim Mohr suffered a dislocated knee in the opening minutes of play.
The match was stopped for around 45 minutes as an ambulance made its way onto the field to collect the former Giant.
In windy conditions, the match was an arm wrestle for the duration as the lead changed hands multiple times throughout the day.
Hawks forwards Dylan Moore and Mitch Lewis were among the shining lights for the brown and gold while defender Teia Miles, who played eight senior matches last year, was the Hawks' best on ground.
Casey’s scoreboard pressure ultimately earned them the win as, despite both sides kicking 10 goals apiece, the Demons generated 11 more shots at goal than Max Bailey’s side.
