Hawthorn’s relationship with the Apple Isle continues to go from strength to strength, with the Hawks signing a record 9,564 Tasmanian members in 2019, surpassing the previous high set in 2017.
The news comes after the club revealed a record membership of 81,130 last month – making 2019 the 13th consecutive year that the club has set a new record.
In addition to a record membership number in Tasmania, the Hawks have also seen a boost in crowd attendances across its four appearances in Launceston in 2019.
A total of 55,688 fans watched the Hawks win three of their four games at UTAS Stadium this year, the highest crowd numbers since 2012.
Hawthorn CEO Justin Reeves attributed the continued growth in Tasmania to the loyalty and support of the local community, combined with the club’s dedication to growing its connection and commitment to the state.
“Launceston is our home away from home. We are proud of our 20 year history in Tasmania and the work we do here both in football and the community,” said Reeves.
“To reach yet another membership milestone in Tassie is testament to the loyalty of the local community and their continued support of the brown and gold.
“I would like to thank the people of Tasmania for their long-standing support of Hawthorn.
“They are an integral part of our family and ensure that every time we travel to Launceston the support for our footy club is visible throughout the city.
“We love playing footy in Tassie and are committed to always bringing fans an elite and entertaining product.
“Hawthorn is not a club to rest on its laurels and we will continue to look for ways to grow our membership and build our relationship with Tasmania in 2020 and beyond.”
Premier Will Hodgman said the benefits of Tasmania’s partnership with Hawthorn goes far beyond game day.
“With more people attending games, we see an even greater increase in benefits to the local economy,” the Premier said.
“We know the economic impact of our partnership with the Hawks is significant, with a return of around $7.50 for every dollar we invest.
“This benefit flows directly back to accommodation, transport, retail, food and drinks in and around the Launceston area, and these results are great news for local businesses.”
