The Hawks will have the opportunity to use a pick in next week's mid-season draft, with a rookie list position opening after veteran Tim Mohr was moved to the season-ending injury list.
Mohr dislocated his knee during a VFL practice match earlier in the year, resulting in significant ACL and PCL damage.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference this morning, Clarkson said the Hawks' brain trust would spend the weekend discussing the likelihood of using the pick on Monday night.
"We'll be in a much better position on Sunday night to know where we sit," Clarkson said.
"There's not a big pool of players that we can select from in this mid-season draft.
"It could be that we've got Pick 5 and the four guys that we wanted go to the first four clubs so we decide to not enter the draft.
"We'll make that decision, and it probably won't be made til Monday night to be fair, but we're a willing participant at this point in time."
