Ben Stratton will be sidelined for two weeks after being sanctioned by the tribunal on pinching and stomping charges.
The Hawthorn captain was handed a week’s suspension after pleading guilty to pinching Essendon’s Orazio Fantasia in Friday night’s game. The repeated nature of the act meant that was deemed serious misconduct by both the MRO and tribunal.
He was then handed a further week for stomping on the foot of Bomber Shaun McKernan.
The charges will see Stratton suspended for the upcoming clashes against Sydney and West Coast, with the skipper set return to face Collingwood in Round 16.
Speaking to the media following Tuesday night’s tribunal hearing, the 30-year-old accepted the penalty and showed remorse for his actions.
“As captain of the football club and an AFL player, I’m remorseful for my actions and I understand they’re not a good look for the game, especially for any kids out there watching,” Stratton said.
“I accept the two-week ban handed down by the tribunal.”
