Alastair Clarkson v Rhyce Shaw

Rhyce Shaw would like nothing more than to win his first official game as North’s head coach. It would reassure the club, his players and North’s supporters that they had made the right decision.

For Alastair Clarkson this will be his 348th game coaching Hawthorn making him the second most experienced coach currently in charge of an AFL team.

When these two teams met earlier this season Clarkson was caught off guard by the Kangaroos game plan. He expected a quick-paced match full of handball chains and instead North came out with a slow-paced style where they held onto possession.

North got out of the blocks quickly kicking four goals to one in the first quarter, but Clarko adjusted his side’s game plan and secured a Hawks victory.

Mitch Lewis v Robbie Tarrant

Both these players didn’t have their best games last week.

Mitch Lewis, despite presenting well and taking some nice marks, unfortunately was unable to convert in front of goal.

Robbie Tarrant had the tough task of playing on West Coast’s tall forwards without his defensive teammate Scott Thompson (injured).

Josh Kennedy took advantage of North’s deficiencies down back kicking a bag of seven goals and Tarrant was left deflated.

Who will bounce back this week?

Tom Scully v Jared Polec

The two wingmen made their way to new clubs in 2019 – Tom Scully came to the Hawks from the Giants and Polec moved to the Kangaroos from Port Adelaide.

Since jumping to the Roos, Polec averages 22 disposals in his 18 games. He averages 2.3 rebound 50s and 3.7 inside 50s a game showing his effectiveness across the ground.

Scully averages slightly less disposals but his efficiency is at 74%.

Both wingmen are in good form. Polec had 31 disposals and seven inside 50s last week against West Coast. Scully last week and 20 disposals, nine marks and a goal against the Lions.
