Hawthorn Assistant Coach Chris Newman says the side is welcoming the challenge of taking on an experienced Brisbane Lions outfit on Sunday.
The Lions have named 16 players who have surpassed the 50-game threshold in their line-up, while the Hawks side features just three such players.
But Newman believes this experience discrepancy only enhances the excitement surrounding the club’s first JLT Series hit-out.
“It’s great that Brisbane have got a pretty strong team in,” Newman said.
“Playing against a quality team, it will be good to see some of our younger boys play against some more experienced players.”
There are 10 players in the Hawks side who are yet to play a senior game for the brown and gold.
Newman said the summer has seen these players continue to integrate themselves smoothly into Hawthorn’s program.
“We’re looking forward to seeing how they go playing in our system.”
