Updated: Tuesday, March 12

Early prognosis

Defender Brown is the only player in the Crows' best 22 unavailable for round one. Midfielder/forward Gallucci has been managing a foot injury and should return for next week's SANFL trial against Port Adelaide. Key position player Himmelberg has been tracking well after dealing with a plantar fascia injury. Half-back flanker McPherson is also set to make his return from a groin injury that he's carried most of the pre-season. - Lee Gaskin

Early prognosis

Looking more likely that Gardiner will play in round one with a good progression from his PCL injury. Brisbane has one final match simulation on Friday and some good minutes there might get the versatile defender over the line. Adams is back running well and only a few weeks away, while Robertson should also be available for the first round, although likely in a NEAFL practice match. - Michael Whiting

Early prognosis

Hooker injured the soleus muscle in his calf at training and is now expected to miss up to six weeks. It follows an interrupted pre-season with a niggling hamstring complaint. Shiel (quad) should play against Geelong in the club's second JLT Community Series, while Fantasia (quad) should also face the Cats. Jok (concussion) has been ruled out for the game with some symptoms still lingering. – Ben Guthrie

 Updated: Tuesday, March 12

Early prognosis

The Dockers' wretched run of soft-tissue injuries continued when tall forwards Cox and Taberner suffered setbacks on Sunday, adding to a concerning injury list heading into round one. Fremantle hopes Taberner's injury is only tightness but Cox looks set to miss several weeks, after Logue and Switkowski went down in the JLT1 loss to Collingwood. In better news, Fyfe is a certain starter to boost a youthful midfield in round one after missing both practice games. Travis King

 Harry Taylor Concussion Test
 Zach Tuohy Knee 1-2 weeks
Updated: Tuesday, March 5

Early prognosis

Taylor will be monitored ahead of Thursday night after suffering a head knock in the first term against West Coast last week. Tuohy's knee complaint has him touch and go for round one, clocking up big hours of cross-training in the gym. After overcoming back concerns, Smith has succumbed to a knee injury that will rule him out of contention for the season opener. Selwood has been watched closely in the past fortnight but is expected to take part in a VFL practice match next week. Cockatoo continues to build his fitness base, looking to avoid any soft tissue hiccups. Fogarty's hip surgery has him eyeing a return in the first month of the season. - Mitch Cleary

Updated: Tuesday, March 12

Early prognosis

The problems haven't taken long to mount for the Suns with bad news on Rankine and Young early in the week. Ellis and Corbett are both chances to be available for round one but neither has played a match during the pre-season and would likely kick off their campaigns in a NEAFL practice match. - Michael Whiting

GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY

Estimated Return

 Nick Haynes Back 2-3 weeks
 Zac Langdon Foot 5-6 weeks
 Shane Mumford Suspended Round 3
 Jon Patton Knee Mid-May
 Callan Ward Knee 6 weeks
Updated: Thursday, March 7

Early prognosis

Greene is a chance to return in GWS's second JLT Community Series game against Adelaide on Friday night, but even if he doesn't play the Giants have little doubt he'll be fit for their round clash against Essendon. Haynes, however, remains touch and go for the season opener as he continues to recover from a back complaint. Langdon will make a delayed start to the season after injuring a Lisfranc joint at training last week, while Patton will fly to Philadelphia within the next fortnight to continue his recovery from his third knee reconstruction. The key forward has resumed running and his US trip is primarily designed to break up the drudgery of his lengthy rehabilitation. Barring last-minute hiccups, Tomlinson (calf) and Kelly (knee and hip) will play their first games of the year on Friday night against the Crows. - Nick Bowen

HAWTHORN

 Jack Gunston ITB soreness Test
 Tom Mitchell Leg Season
 Tom Scully Ankle Indefinite
 Chad Wingard Calf 1-2 weeks
Updated: Tuesday, March 12

Early prognosis

A setback with his calf injury will see Wingard miss round one with the club hopeful he’ll be fit to make his debut in the early rounds of the season. Vice-captain Gunston missed both of the Hawks' JLT games with iliotibial band soreness, but should be available for the club’s round one clash against Adelaide in round one. Veteran Birchall and recruit Scully took part in some match simulation last week and are progressing well but the club won’t put a timeline on their returns, although Birchall is expected to return in the first half of the season. Nat Edwards

Updated: Tuesday, March 12

Early prognosis

Cunnington should be fine for the Kangaroos' round one date with Fremantle. Macmillan was also left out of JLT2, but the seriousness of it remains to be seen. Williams was sitting on the bench with ice on his right calf by early in the second term on Saturday, but Brad Scott said post-match it was a precautionary move. Wrighthad a rough day, too, with multiple issues, but he has 11 days to recover in time for North's season opener. Anderson hasn't played a practice game, so he must be in doubt, while Tarrant is also in a race against time to solidify an injury and suspension-ravaged Roos' backline. – Marc McGowan

Vice-captain Hartlett will need to get a couple of runs under his belt in the SANFL before returning from a torn ACL. Ruckman Ryder rolled his ankle in the JLT Community Series game against Adelaide last weekend, but the injury isn't expected to be serious. Defender Broadbenthad his workloads managed in his return from ankle surgery, however he should be available this week. Lee Gaskin

Young gun Florent hurt a foot in last Saturday's loss to Greater Western Sydney. Franklin increased his training in the past week as he aims for a round one return. Reliable defender Smith isn't back with the main group yet as he deals with a hamstring complaint. Jones and Jack are doing everything and both are in line to face Gold Coast on Sunday. McVeigh didn't play last week as the Swans manage the 33-year-old's workload but is a reasonable chance to take the field against the Suns. Cameron is dealing with a knee niggle sustained in the Swans' practice match against Greater Western Sydney a fortnight ago. - Dinny Navaratnam

Boyd's ongoing back injury is expected to sideline him until at least the mid-season bye in a major blow to the Dogs' tall stocks. Jong and Khamis continue to recover as planned from setbacks suffered in match simulation, while Dale's ankle has meant he hasn't been able to fill the desired amount of training to play round one.Johannisen remains on a modified program, and is expected to return to full sessions in the first fortnight of the season. Webb is on track to re-join contact training in the next fortnight. Mitch Cleary
