Another honour has been added to Shaun Burgoyne’s already-decorated career.
The four-time premiership player has been named vice-captain of the Deadlys, an all-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander team set to compete in next month’s AFLX tournament.
Burgoyne will join forces with Adelaide star Eddie Betts, who will captain the side.
The 36-year-old, whose 358 games trail only the retired Adam Goodes (372) among Indigenous AFL footballers, says he is thrilled to partner with Betts.
"To join forces with one of my mates in Eddie and to lead a team of proud Indigenous men against the best of the rest in the league is a great honour," Burgoyne said.
Jack Riewoldt (Rampage), Nat Fyfe (Flyers) and Patrick Dangerfield (Bolts) are the captains of the other three sides with Patrick Cripps, Marcus Bontempelli and Luke Hodge their respective deputies.
Each team will have 14 players (including the captain and vice-captain), with eight on the field at any one time.
The AFLX 2019 Draft will be held on February 6 and will be shown on 7Mate and Fox Footy from 7pm AEDT, as well as streamed on AFL.com.au and the AFL Live Official App.
The Seven Network and Foxtel will broadcast the AFLX 2019 tournament live, held on Friday February 22, from 7.00pm AEDT. The tournament will also be available live via AFL.com.au and AFL Live App thanks to Telstra.
