Hawthorn expects to be without key defender James Frawley for its Easter Monday clash with Geelong next week.

However, coach Alastair Clarkson is expecting star onballer Jaeger O'Meara to overcome a left hip corkie, after he was a late withdrawal against the Saints.

Frawley sat on the bench with ice on his left hamstring after being hurt in the second term of the loss to St Kilda.

There were several Hawks in trouble during the game. Tough nut James Cousins hurt his right ankle but finished the contest, Isaac Smith required attention after being kicked in the right hand but returned to the field and Conor Nash dealt with a hamstring/glute problem.

The Hawks are already missing key midfielders Shaun Burgoyne, Liam Shiels and Tom Mitchell.

Clarkson admitted that Frawley and Stratton going down affected his team's continuity and momentum as it coughed up a 26-point lead in the third quarter to go down by five in a willing affair.

"It made it a bit tough today because they're your two leaders in your backline too. You're patching things up," Clarkson said.

The coach didn't believe Frawley would be right to face the Cats.

"Like always with these injuries, they can't play the rest of the game so you'd expect they're not going to be available next week, but I've got no idea," Clarkson said.

With eight days ahead of their next match, O'Meara should be fine.

"O'Meara nearly got there today (Sunday). We expect him to be available but we'll just have to wait and see," Clarkson said.

Shiels and Burgoyne won't be available, but Clarkson anticipated Cousins would be fit.

"If he's right to go back on to the ground today, I'd reckon with smart management throughout the course of the week, he'll be OK for next week's game," Clarkson said.
