The Brownlow Medal for 2018 is looming as one of the tightest contests in history.
Seven players are in the running to win the award going into Round 23, according to AFL.com.au's Brownlow predictor.
Furthermore, Fremantle captain Nat Fyfe could finish with the most votes, although his one-match suspension for striking Collingwood hard nut Levi Greenwood in Round 11 means he's ineligible.
With one home and away game left, reigning winner Dustin Martin sits ahead of the field on 22 votes.
On 21 are Carlton onballer Patrick Cripps, Hawthorn ball-winner Tom Mitchell, West Coast star Elliot Yeo and Melbourne ruckman Max Gawn.
Then with 20 are Fyfe, Collingwood big man Brodie Grundy and brilliant Brisbane midfielder Dayne Beams.
Mitchell is currently leading the league in possessions with 762, more than 100 clear of Lachie Neale (633). Mitchell has also won the most clearances (166) and centre clearances (69) of any player in 2018.
