The Hawthorn VFLW side has received a huge boost on the eve of their first finals appearance with three of their young stars being named in the 2018 TAC Cup Girls Team of the Year.

Emerson Woods, Sarah Kendall and Mikala Cann were the three girls to have been awarded the honour, after representing the Eastern Ranges in the competition’s second season this year.

Woods was named on the wing, Kendall in the ruck and Cann on the interchange for the side.

A Mt Evelyn product, Woods has played five games for the Hawks this season, averaging eight disposals, 2.4 marks, 2.6 tackles.

At 170cm tall, the 18-year old Woods also captained the Eastern Ranges throughout the season.

Kendall played in three of the Hawks’ last four games of the home and away season, working hard to break into the line-up at the back end of the year.

The 178cm ruckman stands as the tallest on her club’s list and looks to have a strong future in the brown and gold.

Blakburn-based Cann showed no fear in playing senior football with the Hawks this year, averaging 15.3 possessions throughout her four appearances.

Still just 17 years of age, Cann’s best game for the Hawks was on debut where she gathered 21 disposals, four marks, 10 tackles and a goal in an impressive display.

With all three girls having featured for Hawthorn in games over the past fortnight, they will be hoping to be selected for the Hawks’ first final against Collingwood this Saturday.
