Kick by kick, week by week, Harry Morrison is cementing himself as a true ‘up and comer’ of the competition.
Into his second season on Hawthorn’s list, the youngster has locked down a position in the Hawks’ starting 22, playing the last six games since being recalled to the senior side ahead of Round 3.
The 19-year-old’s performance against Sydney on Friday night was not amazing, but solid, as he collected 15 disposals at 87 percent efficiency while playing predominately on the wing.
Morrison also slotted a beautiful long, dribbling goal from a tight angle, but admitted that ‘luck’ may have played a part.
“I thought it was just going to slide on because there was a bit of water on the ground,” he said after the match.
“I was lucky it gripped and went through.
“I got a lucky bounce, but I’m definitely going to take it.”
Averaging 17 disposals, five marks and four score involvements in 2018, Morrison is looking increasingly likely to become yet another success story of the Hawks’ clever recruiting strategy, having been nabbed with Pick 74 in the 2016 National Draft.

But, the Hawks’ brain trust can’t take all the credit, with the youngster putting in the hard yards to ensure his footy career aspirations are realised.
“For me, the last few weeks have been about playing my role for the team, while also trying to cement my spot in the side,” Morrison said.
“But really, [my development] started in the pre-season.
“I put in a lot of work and was out on the track as much as I could, so that’s definitely helped.”
When asked if he looks to any of his teammates as a source of inspiration, Morrison was quick to point out one man in particular.
“I look up to Roughy a lot, though he probably doesn’t know that.
“I see him as a really good model, both on and off the field.
“I just really like the way he goes about it, so I try to learn as much from him as I can.”
