We spoke to Hawthorn’s Director of High Performance Andrew Russell to find out which of our Hawks have impressed him most across the course of the pre-season.
Catch up: Pre-season stars - 6
Name: Luke Breust
Age: 27
Guernsey: 22
Senior games (2017): 21
Senior games (career): 161
Luke Breust was one of the stand-out performers in the recent intraclub hit out, booting a game-high three goals.
Putting an exclamation mark on what had already been an impressive summer, the 27-year old also had 20 possessions, five marks and five clearances (the equal second-highest of the game) to go with his scoreboard supremacy.
Having returned his lowest season goal tally since his first year of senior football in 2011, Breust appears determined to rectify his quieter year in 2017 (despite still averaging 1.6 goals a game).
It seems he’s heading in the right direction, with Director of High Performance Andrew Russell full of praise for the crafty forward.
“Punky has done 100 percent of the pre-season.
“He hasn’t missed a single session.
“He’s moving as well as I’ve ever seen across the nine years he’s been at this football club.”
Three more players left to be revealed in Russell's list of "Pre-season Stars"... Stay tuned!
