Ryan Burton will have to prove his fitness if he is to line up against the Cats on Easter Monday.
The promising youngster was helped from the ground during the second quarter of Hawthorn’s Round 1 clash, after rolling his ankle during a contest.
Though Burton sat out the remainder of the match, Director of High Performance Andrew Russell isn’t ruling out a Round 2 return.
“At the time, we thought he was a possibility to come back into the game [on Saturday],” Russell said.
“As time went on, the ankle got a little bit worse, so we made the decision to pull him out.
“He’ll be a test this week, I don’t know if he’ll get up but he’s a genuine chance right now.”
Will Langford is progressing well following hand surgery, with Russell labelling the mid an “outside chance” to return for Hawthorn’s Round 3 clash against Richmond in a fortnight’s time.
