Hawthorn Football Club have secured Chad Wingard from the Port Adelaide Football Club.
The two-time All Australian will join the Hawks after seven seasons at Alberton.
Port Adelaide will exchange Wingard and a future third round draft pick in return for Hawthorn defender Ryan Burton and picks 15 and 35 in the 2018 draft and a future fourth round pick in the 2019 draft.
GM – Football Graham Wright said the club is confident the dynamic attacking half forward will bring a great deal to the Hawks.
“Chad is an impressive young man and an accomplished player,” Wright said.
“To be a dual All Australian as a 25-year old is testament to the quality footballer he is. We look forward to Chad joining us for the 2019 season and beyond .
With 147 games under his belt, Wingard was Port Adelaide’s leading goalkicker in 2015 and 2016, club best and fairest in 2013 and Gavin Wanganeen Medallist in 2012.
Wright thanked Burton for his three seasons and 47 games for Hawthorn.
“Ryan is a talented young player and we know he has a long and rewarding career ahead of him,” Wright said.
“We are confident he will be a great asset to Port Adelaide. We want to thank Ryan for his dedication to the brown and gold and wish him all the best in his next chapter back home in Adelaide.”
Wright said the club are satisfied with their position heading into the 2018 and 2019 AFL National Drafts.
“One of our desires was to have some kind of presence in this year’s draft, while maintaining all of our picks for next year.”
Scully is the third player to join the Hawks during this 2018 trade period, following the signatures of former Sun Jack Scrimshaw and former Giant Tom Scully on Tuesday.
