Hawthorn has made a late change ahead of its Qualifying Final clash against Richmond, with Ryan Schoenmakers replaced by returning midfielder Dan Howe.
GM-Football Graham Wright said a sore achilles would prevent Schoenmakers taking his place in the side.
“Ryan has had some soreness in his achilles this week that unfortunately has failed to clear up in time for tonight’s clash,” said Wright.
“We wanted to give him every opportunity to get up for the game but we can’t afford to take the risk with a player that isn’t 100 percent.”
Howe missed the last five games of the home and away season through suspension. He didn’t miss a beat upon return to the VFL last week however, collecting 25 touches and laying eight tackles in three quarters of game time.
“Howie had been enjoying a solid season before his suspension in Round 17,” Wright said.
“He’s trained diligently during his time on the sidelines, and we’re confident he’ll slot straight back into the line-up and fulfil his role.”
Tonight’s clash kicks off at 7.20pm at the MCG, with the winner progressing straight through to a preliminary final berth.
