The Hawthorn VFLW side has continued to display their premiership credentials with a gutsy nine-point victory over the Southern Saints at Trevor Barker Oval on Sunday.
The Hawks trailed the Saints by five points at three-quarter time before storming home with three goals in the final term to extend their winning streak to six games.
Having won each of their past four games by single-digit margins, deputy vice-captain Lou Wotton says the trust and confidence within the side is continuing to grow.
“We’ve got that belief in the group now that it doesn’t matter that we’re behind,” Wotton said.
“We’re going to keep fighting.
“We’re a really resilient team.”
Hawthorn overcame a goalless first half on their way to an important win that sees them remain within half a game of the ladder-leading Collingwood.
It wasn’t until the opening minute of the third term, when Wotton stepped up to finally nail the side’s first major of the day, that the Hawks found any momentum.
Wotton attributed the slow start to a lack of compliance with their structures.
“Good sides, like the Saints, will come at you if you’re not on your game.
“But we fixed that in the second half and that’s when we started to get on top.”
The Hawks now turn their attention to the fifth-placed Darebin on Saturday.
“Darebin have been so strong in the women’s league for so long and there is a lot of us who haven’t won against them in a long time.
“You can’t take them lightly, they have a quality side.
“Every team has come at us and there is no reason why Darebin won’t come at us as well.”
