Midfielder Jaeger O’Meara says the Hawks only need to add some extra polish and make some ’minor’ fixes to get back to playing their best football.
After going down to West Coast by 15 points on Sunday, O’Meara said the Hawks were confident that with only a few adjustments the side would be back amongst the competition’s in-form teams.
“We think our effort was there on the weekend it was just a little bit of polish and some minor things we needed to fix up,” O’Meara told SEN on Tuesday.
“But we think our footy can sustain against the top teams.”
The 24-year-old is currently living with teammate and fellow midfielder, Tom Mitchell, something O’Meara says has so far been beneficial to both players, .
“It’s been really good, probably for both of us but for me especially,” O’Meara said.
“I’m trying to emulate him a little bit in a few different ways and I’ve tried to help him out with a few different things as well.
“He’s helped me with just extra touch around the club and that kind of thing, he does a lot of extra work so he’s helped me out with that and just watching takes and that kind of thing.”
While Mitchell’s influence on his teammate has been largely football focused, it’s been eliminating a particular snack food from the former Swan’s diet that O’Meara is claiming the most credit for.
“I’ve tried to help him a little bit with his diet because he used to love his Shapes when I first got here.
“He used to love them but he’s off them now.”
The Hawks are set to face a tough encounter against Port Adelaide in Launceston this weekend with both sides sitting narrowly outside the top eight.
“Their season’s been a little bit up and down as ours has so we’re expecting a really fierce contest against them,” O’Meara said.
“They’re coming off a little break from their Shanghai game as well so they’ll be pretty fresh and ready to go.
“The Port and Hawks games over the last few years have always been really strong games and really fierce contests so (we’re) looking forward to that on the weekend.”
