We spoke to Hawthorn’s Director of High Performance Andrew Russell to find out which of our Hawks have impressed him most across the course of the pre-season.

Having been one of just six Hawks to play all 22 games in 2017, Jack Gunston has continued through this pre-season with similar consistency.
The 26-year old returned from the off-season to record the fifth fastest time in the pre-Christmas time trial.
A member of the leadership group for the second consecutive year, Gunston’s importance to the club’s list continues to grow.
Playing predominantly up forward, Gunston gathered 23 disposals, seven marks, nine inside 50s and two clearances in the club’s most recent intraclub hit out.
“Gunston’s done over 90 percent of the pre-season,” said Russell.
“He’s had a great preparation and been really consistent.
“His aerobic ability has gone to another level, and he’s looking as strong as he ever has.”
