The latest GPS tracking data has revealed a number of surprises for Hawks fans.
Distance king Isaac Smith leads the way at an average of 15.3km a game this year, with fellow midfielder Tom Mitchell just behind with an average of 14.9.
But the Hawk that slots in next is one that may surprise fans.
While well regarded for his athletic ability, versatile forward Ryan Schoenmakers has so far averaged 14.1kms from his two appearances in 2018.
The 2015 premiership player is one of multiple key position players to feature in clubs’ top three runners so far this year with Brisbane’s Harris Andrews, Melbourne’s Oscar McDonald and North Melbourne’s Bern Brown amongst the competition’s big men to average high numbers.
Meanwhile, of the Hawks to hit the highest speeds, Paul Puopolo leads the way with 34.6km/h while recruit Jarman Impey sits only a tenth of a kilometre an hour behind.
Perhaps the other surprise for Hawks fans is the speed of star defender James Sicily.
While he may be known for his fiery on-field persona, the 23-year-old’s running is what’s been the most explosive this season, hitting a high speed of 34.3 km/hour.
Teammates Impey and Jack Gunston have also covered the most distance at a highspeed, with both recording 2.8 kilometres at over 18km/h during the Hawks’ opening round win against Collingwood.
