ANDY OTTEN ADELAIDE | Unrestricted | The veteran key-position player is keen to play on and has had positive talks with the Crows, but his future is unlikely to be decided before the end of the NAB AFL Trade Period. Played just eight senior games in 2018, but finished with strong performances in the final two rounds, holding North Melbourne spearhead Ben Brown goalless in round 22. His hopes for a new contract have been bolstered by Mitch McGovern's request for a trade to Carlton.
JARRYD BLAIR COLLINGWOOD | Unrestricted | On the outer this season despite strong VFL form, Blair's time at the Holden Centre appears to be coming to a close. Still just 28, so could appeal to clubs looking for a readymade small forward. Most likely to be considered as a delisted free agent.
ALEX FASOLO COLLINGWOOD | Unrestricted | Set to join Carlton on a three-year deal worth about $1 million. The small forward played just one senior game this season as Collingwood went with Will Hoskin-Elliott, Jaidyn Stephenson and Josh Thomas as its ground-level options in attack. Fasolo's form in the VFL was solid enough to earn him a second opportunity at Ikon Park.
TYSON GOLDSACK COLLINGWOOD | Unrestricted | Completed a remarkably quick return from a knee reconstruction in March to fill in as the Pies' No.1 key defender during a finals campaign that came agonisingly close to delivering the club's 16th premiership. The 31-year-old is keen to play on, but is in limbo as the Pies prioritise re-signing fellow defenders Darcy Moore and Tom Langdon, and remain in the hunt for Gold Coast's Steven May and, to a lesser extent, Western Bulldog Marcus Adams. Goldsack's manager, Anthony McConville of Mac's Sports, was due to meet with Collingwood for further discussions.
GEORGE HORLIN-SMITH GEELONG | Unrestricted | The 25-year-old is set to join Gold Coast, but his move might not be confirmed for a while. The Suns are all but certain to receive pick No.3 as compensation for Tom Lynch's departure to Richmond, but won't move on Horlin-Smith as a free agent if acquiring him could dilute that pick. If that risk proves real, Gold Coast could look to secure the South Australian in a trade.
DANIEL MENZEL GEELONG | Unrestricted | The forward is still seeking a two-year deal, but to date neither Geelong nor a rival team have been prepared to make that commitment. Menzel's manager, Adam Ramanauskas, told RSN927 Geelong still had "interest" in re-signing the 27-year-old, but added he was "not as confident" as he had been last year that Menzel would re-sign. Ramanauskas was, however, confident Menzel would get a rival offer in the event he left the Cattery.
TOM LYNCH GOLD COAST | Restricted | As expected, the former Suns co-captain nominated Richmond as his preferred new home ahead of Collingwood and Hawthorn. Lynch will join the Tigers on a deal of at least six years, worth about $1 million a season, with the paperwork expected to be lodged with the AFL on the first day of free agency. The Suns could match that offer but are expected to accept a compensation pick that should fall at No.3 in the NAB AFL Draft.
TAYLOR DURYEA HAWTHORN | Unrestricted | The 27-year-old fell out of favour at Hawthorn in the latter part of 2018 before returning for the semi-final loss to Melbourne. The defender will have the option of playing on with the Hawks in 2019, but will be asking himself whether a fresh start would be best for his career, with Sydney among several opposition clubs circling.
RYAN SCHOENMAKERS HAWTHORN | Unrestricted | Injury and form limited the key forward to just nine games in 2018, but he does not turn 28 until November and should have good football left in him. The South Australian loves the Hawks and is hopeful of re-signing, but will likely have to wait until the end of the Trade Period before learning his fate.
BRENDAN WHITECROSS HAWTHORN | Unrestricted | The Queenslander appears to be on borrowed time at Waverley after playing just six games this season. Turns 29 in January but his experience could appeal to one of the clubs in his home state.
SCOTT THOMPSON NORTH MELBOURNE | Unrestricted | The veteran defender is close to re-signing for 2019 after another strong season, when he and Robbie Tarrant again held down the Roos' key defensive posts. Turns 33 next May, but remains a reliable one-on-one defender and one of North's most dependable kick-in exponents.
REECE CONCA RICHMOND | Unrestricted | The 26-year-old West Australian is poised to join Fremantle on a four-year deal, joining an exodus of Richmond foot soldiers that will likely include Sam Lloyd, Corey Ellis, Anthony Miles and Tyson Stengle. Conca enjoyed his best season since 2014 after finally enjoying some continuity and will help bolster the Dockers' midfield should Lachie Neale's expected departure to Brisbane eventuate.
ANDREW GAFF WEST COAST | Unrestricted | This year's hottest midfield property is grappling with staying with West Coast or joining North Melbourne. West Coast's offer is understood to be worth up to $900,000 a season for six years, North's is believed to be for seven years and up to $1.2 million a season. Gaff is said to remain genuinely undecided, while the Roos have not received any indication which way he is leaning. A decision could come as early as Saturday, and should not be announced any later than early next week.
MARK LECRAS WEST COAST | Unrestricted | The classy veteran enjoyed a strong home and away season and kicked three goals in the preliminary final win over Melbourne. Still seems to have petrol in the tank but, at 32, will he decide that playing in a premiership team is the perfect way to bow out?
SCOTT LYCETT WEST COAST | Restricted | Toured Port Adelaide's Alberton headquarters and appears set to join the Power on a deal reportedly worth $3 million over five years. That should be enough to net the Eagles an end-of-first-round compensation pick, which would likely convince them not to match Port's offer. Lycett also attracted huge interest from St Kilda before opting to return home to South Australia.
LUKE DAHLHAUS WESTERN BULLDOGS | Unrestricted | The premiership player has announced he will be leaving the club. Geelong is set to land the forward on a lucrative four-year offer worth more than $2 million.
TOM LIBERATORE WESTERN BULLDOGS | Unrestricted | The elite inside ball-winner returned home from an overseas holiday this week to resume talks with the Bulldogs. Dogs list manager Sam Power said those discussions had been "positive". A new deal appears imminent.
JORDAN ROUGHEAD WESTERN BULLDOGS | Restricted | The versatile tall has informed the Bulldogs he will explore his free agency options after being in and out of the senior team this year. The 27-year-old is firmly on West Coast's radar, with the Eagles understood to be eyeing him more as a key defender than a ruckman. However, Roughead might not get to the Eagles as a free agent if they decide not to risk diluting any compensation pick they receive for Lycett's departure to Port. In that scenario, West Coast could try to broker a trade with the Bulldogs instead. |
