Hawthorn's VFLW side continued their strong start to the season, notching up their second win in as many weeks over Casey.

After trailing by two goals at half-time, the Hawks were able to keep the Demons goalless for the remainder of the game as they recorded a hard-fought seven-point win.

Hawks captain Emma Mackie said she was “exhausted” but ecstatic that her side was able to overcome the challenge.

“We’re really happy to come away with the win,” Mackie said. 

“We knew it was going to be a real test and they really brought it to us today. 

“I’m really happy with the girls’ efforts to win the game in the end.”

The Demons outclassed the Hawks in the opening half, racing away to a 12-point buffer at the main break. 

“They were doing some really great things on the inside in the first half,” Mackie said.

“They were able to get the ball out really quickly and they have a fast team. 

“So, we identified some of those areas and (coach Paddy Hill) identified some things we needed to lift on.” 

Mackie noted that Coach Hill always managed to get the best out of the girls, the results of which are becoming increasingly noticeable. 

“I can really feel that the girls are all feeling (the chemistry) out on the field. 

“We all want to play for each other and everyone is really proud to wear the Hawks guernsey. 

“Two wins from two, you can’t complain about that.”

The Hawks now set their sights on Carlton who are the only other side in the competition to be undefeated after the opening fortnight.

It will be the team’s first game at Box Hill City Oval, as the girls play the curtain raiser to the VFL side who will also take on the Blues.
