When Tom Mitchell and Luke Breust were honoured with their place in the 2018 All Australian side, they became the ninth and 10th Hawthorn players to earn the honour on multiple occasions.

Since its inception at the beginning of the AFL era in 1991, past All Australian sides have featured 22 Hawks, with Jack Gunston the latest to be added to an esteemed list.

Shane Crawford and Lance Franklin lead the way for All Australians guernseys while in a brown and gold jumper, earning four each.

Coach Alastair Clarkson has also been awarded the All Australian coach four times, in the premiership years of 2008, 2013, 2014 and 2015.

The Hawks also made history on Wednesday night, with three Hawks players being named in the same All Australian side for the first time in the honour’s 28-year history.

Although, it must be said that, prior to 1991, a Team of the Year side was picked based off players’ performances representing their respective home state in the annual national carnivals.

Hawthorn had some incredible success throughout the 1980s by having players selected in these sides.

In fact, in 1983, 1986 and 1988, the Hawks had six representatives in these sides following each of those years’ carnivals.
