On the back of Luke Breust’s career-best game against the Western Bulldogs on the weekend, we take a look at the other Hawks who have posted career-high numbers in 2018…
Tom Mitchell
Round 1 against Collingwood at the MCG
54 disposals
The season opener saw Mitchell reach the 50-disposal mark for the second time in his career and second time against the Pies. But the 25-year old went a few touches further than his effort in Round 9 last year, gathering 54 touches and a new league record. Among his ridiculous haul, his 34 handballs and 27 contested possessions were also his highest counts in those respective categories.
Isaac Smith
Round 6 against St Kilda at the University of Tasmania Stadium
4 goals
Isaac Smith is averaging a career-high 1.3 goals per game in 2018, having hit the scoreboard in 12 of his 15 outings so far this year. And in Round 6, Smith booted a career-high four majors to go with his 24 possessions, six marks and four tackles. Smith led all comers on the ground with his efforts in front of goal while also having more disposals than all bar five other players on the field.
James Sicily
Round 7 against Essendon at the MCG
14 marks
James Sicily was an all-powerful aerial presence in Round 7 against the Bombers. Sicily hauled down 14 marks, including three contested as he proved almost impenetrable in a still-new role as a defender. His 29 touches on the night were also right up with his best numbers, having surpassed the tally just once, in Round 23 last year against the Bulldogs when he collected 31 possessions.
Jarman Impey
Round 9 against Brisbane at the Gabba
25 disposals
In a dark day for the Hawks as they fell to the Brisbane Lions by 56 points at the Gabba, Jarman Impey was a rare shining light. The recruit racked up 25 touches as he continually broke the lines with his pace and skills. His touches were amongst Hawthorn’s most valuable on the day with his game-high 11 inside 50s also a career-high.
Luke Breust
Round 16 against the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium
6 goals
Luke Breust was clearly the best player afield last weekend in the Hawks’ win over the Dogs. Breust had a night out with his bag of six goals equalling a career-high he has achieved twice before. But it was just as much his efforts elsewhere that made his night so outstanding. Five marks inside 50 and 15 contested possessions were also the best tallies of his career in those areas, while he has only bettered his 24 possessions and eight marks once before respectively.
