The Hawthorn VFLW side got their season off to a perfect start as they overran Essendon to finish 39-point victors at Windy Hill on Sunday.
Hawk Meg Hutchins, who was among the best players on the field, said it was a wonderful experience to be a part of an historic moment for the club.
“It’s pretty special,” Hutchins said.
“You only really get one chance to make a first impression and I think we did that really well today.
“It was a really proud day for the girls, for the squad and for the club.”

But Hutchins, the most experienced and decorated player on the Hawks list, was quick to shift her attention to next week.
“There were certain areas where we executed really well, but there were also certain areas that we fell down in,” the 36-year old said.
“There was a lot of positives, and obviously, the result is a positive.
“But there’s a lot of stuff to work on ahead of next week as well, which is exciting!”
The Hawks face the Casey Scorpions at Casey Fields next week in what will be the Scorpions’ opening match of the season after they had the bye in Round 1.
“They have a lot of AFLW-listed girls as well and they are a great club, so it will be a great challenge for us”.
Hawthorn vice-captain Tamara Luke echoed the sentiment of her teammate, saying the squad was in for a strong week on the training track ahead of their Round 2 clash.
“There’s definitely things that we need to work on for Casey,” Luke said.
“I think we can improve our pressure around the ball and winning the ball from the source and getting it down into the forward line.”
