Selection this week is set to be a tough one for the Hawks’ coaching panel, with a host of players pushing their case at VFL level over the weekend.

James Sicily’s wrist injury opens the door for at least one of these players to return to the side.

Defender David Mirra certainly pushed his case, again listed among Box Hill’s best. The mature-age recruit picked up 22 disposals at 95 per cent efficiency in the win over Port Melbourne in an impressive display down back.

The Hawks may also send versatile forward Jack Gunston to defence to cover for the wounded Sicily, meaning either of Mitch Lewis or Ryan Schoenmakers could be recalled to bolster the Hawks in attack.

The pair both put in solid performances at VFL level, with Schoenmakers kicking two goals from 21 disposals, while Lewis managed three majors for a second week in a row and grabbed 10 marks.

Key defender Kaiden Brand will be an option the Hawks could consider after gathering 17 disposals while manning Port Melbourne’s tall forwards.

Meanwhile, midfielder James Worpel will also come under consideration after producing his best performance yet for Box Hill, finishing with 34 disposals, eight clearances and a goal.

Jonathan O’Rourke could return after missing the clash with the Lions due to an adductor issue. His lone 2018 clash was the week prior against the Western Bulldogs, where he collected 13 touches and showed some positive signs.
