"We just lost our way."

That was the general message out of Alastair Clarkson's press conference after his side went down to the Lions by 56 points.

Clarkson said that despite trying many different methods and styles of play, the Hawks weren't able to match it with a hungry Brisbane outfit.

"Perhaps we didn't capitalise on a few of our opportunities early in the game," Clarkson said.

"To the credit of their side and their play, they didn't allow us to get back into the contest.

"We tip our lids off to them, they were too good for us tonight."
