The Box Hill Football Club is delighted to announce the six members of the all-female podcast, the Outer Sanctum, have been appointed the number one ticket holders of the Box Hill VFLW team.
Emma Race, Nicole Hayes, Alicia Sometimes, Lucy Race, Felicity Race and Kate Seear are all devoted Hawthorn fans who, having started The Outer Sanctum Podcast in 2016, seek to focus on the stories and voices rarely heard around the football landscape.
Emma Race, a former broadcaster and producer with such outlets as Nova, ABC Radio, ABC TV, Network Ten and Seven, said the group was honoured to be appointed to the role.
“We feel so honoured to go from being fans and members to being able to actually do something to be of service to the club,” Race told hawthornfc.com.au.
“One thing that bonds us all is that we are completely crazy for Hawthorn.
“So, this is the perfect way for us to help because women’s footy is so exciting and there’s so much happening in that space”.
The podcast began last year at one of the Race sisters’ kitchen table and has since grown to now become partnered with The Age newspaper and ABC Radio.

“What we have found in doing this podcast so far is that the passion that women have for footy has never and will never die.
“We can’t wait to tell the stories about women who now have been able to play at the highest level and how that has ignited their passion even further”.
A mother of three young daughters, Emma Race says the inception of the AFL Women’s League has changed so much about how young girls, and women generally, perceive the sport.
“It’s so important for my daughters, and young girls generally, to see other girls playing football because it’s changing the way that they feel and think about football.
“And it’s just as important for the boys to see girls running around in Hawks colours because then the boys will know that girls can do everything that boys can do and that will have great social implications.
“So, it’s great that Hawthorn has become a part of this revolution and a part of the conversation”.
Race believes that her role in the football media, and now as Box Hill Women’s Number One Ticket Holder, is to promote acceptance and inclusiveness, ensuring that the environment of football is a safe and happy place for everyone that wants to watch and play.
“I guess, while being a number one ticket Holder is usually just a symbolic role, the six of us are really excited to get in with everyone at Box Hill to make this a real success and to make Box Hill Women’s a destination club”.
The Outer Sanctum Podcast is available on all ABC platforms, and is also available on the iTunes store.
