Despite remaining goalless heading into Round 4, Jack Gunston isn’t worried about his personal form.

Speaking to SEN on Friday morning, Gunston highlighted his new role as one of the reason the typically crafty forward has been unable to impact the scoreboard.

“At the moment I’m probably doing my work higher up the ground, and I guess the goal kicking has suffered a little bit,” Gunston said.

“It’s no worry for mine, I’ve gone three weeks before without kicking a goal, and I’m still in the play and getting the ball.”

Gunston has booted 271 goals in his career, and averaged at least two goals a game across the past five seasons. Despite a slow start to his 2017 campaign, the forward still believes he’s capable of playing his best football.

“I thought I had a pretty good week against Adelaide last week, but I just had two quiet games in the other two [rounds].

“It doesn’t add any pressure on me, I just need to get out there and play the footy I know I can play.”

Following the Hawks’ 0-3 start, several social commentators have already written the recent premiers out of contention, an attitude that surprises Gunston.

“I’m genuinely surprised every year… after three or four rounds teams have already been written off.

“They can come out and have a great second half of the year that catapults their next few seasons.

“There’s always going to be negativity towards teams and this year we’re the one in the firing line, and rightfully so.

“We need to go out there and fix those problems.”
