Hawthorn star Isaac Smith says that this week has been the lowest point of his entire AFL career.

Speaking to RSN radio station on Wednesday, the Hawks vice-captain said that he hadn’t experienced this level of media scrutiny, neither positive nor negative, throughout his seven-year career.

“We’ve been playing some hopeless football at times to tell the truth so we need to change a few things,” Smith said.

“It feels like we’ve been a bit low in confidence and then low in what we’re trying to execute”.

Despite the obvious pessimism surrounding his side currently, the wingman was keen to emphasise some shining lights of the Hawks’ opening month of the season.

“I thought there were some really positive signs on the weekend as well, even though Geelong got a run on in the last quarter”.

“I thought James Sicily was really good, he took a lot of contested marks, and I think Ryan Burton is showing a heap down back as well”.

Of his 139 career games, the three-time premiership player has won 76.3%, the fourth best record of all current players in the league to have played over 50 games.

The New South Welshman is yet to miss a finals campaign in his career, and is not ready to concede that this year will break that trend.

“We’re still not without a chance of playing finals this year.

“Its round four, and we’ve lost four games but footy turns around pretty quickly”.
