Hawthorn is set to appeal the one match suspension offered to veteran Luke Hodge for an incident that occurred during the club’s Round 19 win over Sydney.

Hodge is charged with striking Swan Tom Papley during the second quarter, an offense deemed careless conduct with low impact to the body by the MRP.

According to Hawthorn GM-Football Operations Jason Burt, the club plans to challenge the sanction.

“We’re confident that we have a case to argue and based on that we’ve made the decision to challenge the sanction,” said Burt.

The tribunal will sit on Tuesday evening to decide the outcome of Hodge’s appeal. If successful, Hodge will be available to face the Tigers at the MCG this Sunday.
