The Rundown

As the Hawks travelled to the Gabba for the first time since 2008, they were determined to extend a Lions month-long losing streak.

However, the Lions did not roll over easily, delivering a highly-spirited performance for the first three quarters of the game.

The Lions had multiple moments throughout the game where they would push ahead and look as though they would cause what would have undoubtedly been one of the upsets of the season.

But the strength of the Hawks ultimately prevailed as the final quarter displayed a complete Hawk domination as they kicked nine goals to Brisbane’s three.

The Star

In his 250th game, Jordan Lewis was a stand-out as he gathered 42 disposals, the second highest tally of his career. His day included 18 contested possessions, nine clearances, 12 score involvements and a goal. The Lions attempted to tag Lewis, but the added attention clearly made no interruption on his milestone celebrations.

The Moment

In what was a tight tussle for the first three quarters, it always seemed a matter of time before the Hawks would break through the sustained efforts of the youthful Lions line-up. That moment came early in the fourth quarter, when Jordan Lewis was able to shake his opponent for a strong contested mark and then wheel around off one step to dob a long goal. After that goal, the Hawks added another eight, whilst the Lions could only score one more major.
