This game could be pinpointed as the day Luke Hodge truly announced himself to the competition. 

Having played his 50th game the week before, the 2001 number one draft pick had gained valuable experience in his first three years in the league. 

But this game became his first 30-possession game, as he dominated the Blues all over the ground, also earning two Brownlow votes for his efforts.

It kick-started Hodge’s break out year, a year that he would go on to win his first Peter Crimmins Medal as well as being announced on the back flank of the 2005 All Australian team.

 

Round 21 2007 vs Western Bulldogs

35 disposals, 6 goals, 10 inside 50s, 4 goal assists 

Luke Hodge was simply unstoppable in Round 21 of the 2007 season.

His game could be summed up in one way- he posted records that remain standing for the most ever goals he has kicked in a game, most ever goal assists all while equalling his fifth highest disposal tally of his career.

Hodge received the three Brownlow votes in the Hawks’ 84-point victory over the Dogs.

2008 Grand Final vs Geelong

26 disposals, 5 tackles, 7 rebound 50s, 3 contested marks, 8 one percenters and a goal

In 2008, Hodge entered his first Grand Final appearance under an extreme injury cloud.

Although Hodge has never confirmed either way, it was suspected that he carried a rib injury into the game against the Cats after being hurt in the preliminary final win over St Kilda the previous week. 

Nevertheless, Hodge battled manfully throughout this classic grand final and was prominent throughout every aspect of the game. 

His Herculean effort prompted his first Norm Smith Medal to couple with his first premiership medallion.

 

2014 Grand Final vs Sydney

35 disposals, 12 marks, 4 tackles, 2 goals

Luke Hodge created all sorts of history when he led his side to a back-to-back premiership over the Swans.

Hodge became only the third player, after Gary Ayres and Andrew McLeod, to win two Norm Smith Medals, guaranteeing himself football immortality.

It was Hodge’s third premiership and second as captain of the Hawks. 

The nickname ‘Mr September’ had been officially verified.

Round 3 2015 vs Western Bulldogs

44 disposals, 2 goals, 9 clearances, 4 inside 50s

The Bulldogs were again victims to one of Hodge’s best career games, this time in 2015. 

Hodge recorded a personal-best in disposals, as he gathered 44 touches to go with his nine clearances and four inside 50s.

Hodge was also a force on the scoreboard, kicking two goals to guarantee himself the three Brownlow votes.

It was the Hawks’ second win of a season in which they were on a quest to achieving a rare premiership threepeat.
