Club Legend Peter Knights brought some special guests to the Hawks Museum – his family. As retirement from his role as the Club’s Coterie Manager was imminent, the Knights clan came to share memories of the Hawk champion’s playing days. Members of his family came far to enjoy the day at Waverley Park. Peter’s parents, Lindsay and Fay, travelled from the family farm in Gippsland for a rare visit, while his daughters Rebecca and Sarah, drove over from South Australia.

Peter Knights kept all the guernseys he wore during his career- a collection that was highlighted in the Hawthorn Archives Book, along with those of Shane Crawford and Jordan Lewis. His family came to see his favourite Number 24 guernsey. Worn during the 1976 Grand Final, this guernsey is a reminder of the premiership that became known as the Cup for Crimmo. This special guernsey has been freshly installed in the Legends Cabinet, near the life-sized portrait by Dave Thomas that marks Knights’ elevation to Club Legend status. The portrait is based on the official photograph for his 1975 Best & Fairest Award. The painting’s background is of Princes Park, a ground that featured many great games from Peter Knights.

The family enjoyed the Museum’s memorabilia, photographs and trophies while Peter related stories of coaches, teammates and incidents from his Hawthorn career. The Hawks Museum was thrilled to host such a special family reunion!
