Hawthorn Vice-Captain Liam Shiels has blamed skill errors combined with a lack of intent for Hawthorn's record-breaking Round 11 loss to Port Adelaide.
"It was a little bit slippery, but they played like it was a dry weather game," Shiels said of the opposition, while addressing the media on Tuesday morning.
“Our fumbles and cough ups really cost us, especially against a Port Adelaide side that can really take it on and go through the corridor.
"Our intent just wasn't there in the first quarter."
Despite scoring just three points in a disappointing first half, the midfielder notes the need for the playing group to rally around the younger players and help to bolster their confidence during a testing period.
"I think it's still important that we review the game looking at the negatives, and also the positives.
"We had a few young players out there, so we can't just hammer those guys.
"We've reviewed and found some positives - not many in the first half but a few in the second, so it's important to [remain upbeat] going forward."
