Hawthorn Football Club acknowledges the AFL Commission's decision to postpone the announcement of the 2019 AFLW licences.

Hawthorn CEO Tracey Gaudry said the club has put forward a convincing case and is committed to growing the game.

“Hawthorn presented a really strong case to the AFL that highlighted the club’s solid talent pathways, financial strength, vast audience and ability to contribute to the overall growth of the game for women and girls,” Gaudry said.

“While the AFL’s decision has been delayed, our commitment, dedication and desire to see women wearing the brown and gold in the AFLW has not wavered.

“We will continue to advocate our strengths to the AFL and assist where possible in providing any additional information required that will reinforce Hawthorn's commitment to being part of the next AFLW expansion”.
