Sam Mitchell (Hawthorn)
The Hawthorn champion runs out for game number 300 this week, and shows no signs of slowing down if his form this year is anything to go by. The four-time premiership star is averaging 30 disposals this season, and added a magnificent 37-possession game to his tally last week against the Sydney Swans.
Jack Gunston (Hawthorn)
Gunston had a solid game against the Swans last week, and not just because of his goal kicking. The forward kicked two goals from 20 disposals and eight marks, but also covered a lot of ground, finding his way into defence at important times and also attending a few centre bounces, a play which coach Alastair Clarkson has deployed previously with Jarryd Roughead.
Josh Gibson (Hawthorn)
Gibson was back to his freewheeling best last week, collecting 24 touches at an efficiency of just under 80%. With James Frawley having a super season and Kaiden Brand developing into a solid key defender for the Hawks, Gibson is spending less time on the opposition’s best forwards which is allowing him to run and create from defence.
Dustin Martin (Richmond)
Martin was arguably the difference for the Tigers last week as they snuck over the line against the Bombers. Collecting 43 possessions, 14 clearances and two goals, Martin is a massive weapon for Richmond whether he is in the forward 50 or running through the midfield.
Ben Griffiths (Richmond)
Griffiths has played some good footy for the Tigers in recent weeks and has leapfrogged Tyrone Vickery as Richmond’s second key forward. Griffiths’ marking power was most impressive last week against the Bombers, clunking 12 marks and finishing with three goals to provide the Tigers with a target as Jack Riewoldt was well held.
