Hawks post back-to-back wins for the first time in 2015, beating the Saints by 63 and securing the Blue Ribbon Cup.
The Rundown
Hawthorn ran out 63-point winners against St Kilda in Round 10 last year at Etihad Stadium, despite playing below their best in patches throughout the game.
The Hawks had the better of the opening half, going into half time with a lead of 35 points, but certainly had their chances to extend that margin further after having ten more scoring shots than the Saints in the first two quarters.
Hawthorn’s goal kickers found their range after the break, depositing six goals in each of the third and fourth quarters to seal a 10-goal victory going into their bye round.
The Star
Sam Mitchell was at his accumulative best with 35 disposals and eight clearances – St Kilda’s Jack Steven the only player to gather more of the ball throughout the day with 38 disposals.
The Moment
Luke Breust intercepted an errant St Kilda kick-in with just four minutes left in the second term and kicked truly, which sparked a flurry of three goals in as many minutes to push the lead out to six goals at half time.
The Coach
“It (12 goal kickers) gives you some sort of indication of our attitude in terms of sharing the ball and making sure that it doesn’t matter who kicks the goals as long as the team does” – Alastair Clarkson
