FIVE goals from Kieran Lovell helped Box Hill Hawks overcome reigning VFL premier Williamstown at Burbank Oval on Sunday.
The Hawks came from 10 points at the final change to record a 15-point win, 17.10 (112) to 14.13 (97).
It was a match with a multitude of lead changes.
The Hawks got off to a flying start, opening up an 11-point advantage at quarter time. But the Seagulls rebounded with a blistering second term, leading by more than three goals late in the term, before a late double to Box Hill - including a long-range bomb from Kurt Heatherley - closed the margin to eight points.
The Hawks hit the front in the third term - but the Seagulls responded - before the Hawks regained the lead midway through the final term and hung on.
Lovell (five goals, 15 disposals) was among the Hawks' best, with Patrick Lawlor (two goals) the side's only other multiple goal-scorer.
Dallas Willsmore again led the disposal count, finishing with 28 touches - after a 12-disposals first term - while Jonathan O'Rourke (24 disposals) and Brendan Whitecross (21 disposals) also found plenty of the ball.
