HAWTHORN has been fined by the AFL for making a late change ahead of its Round 1 match against Geelong.

The Hawks were sanctioned $5000, with $2500 of the penalty suspended.

Ruckman Jonathon Ceglar was a late withdrawal on the day of the game with a back spasm, with debutant Marc Pittonet called up.

Pittonet was called into the match day side from outside the Hawks' three emergency players.
