Ten things you might have missed over the weekend...
1. Streaks
Saturday’s win extended a couple of winning streaks for the Hawks.
The 19-point win was the Hawks’ 19th-consecutive win at Aurora Stadium, 14th in a row against the Blues and 9th in succession this season.
2. Dimma’s debut
The late withdrawal of Cyril Rioli allowed Blake Hardwick to debut against the Blues.
The 2015 draftee became the fifth Hawk to debut in 2016, picking up eight disposals and three tackles in a promising display.
3. Milestone for McEvoy
Ben McEvoy marked his 50th game as a Hawk in style, kicking a goal and taking some big grabs against the Blues.
The big man was consistent as always, taking his winning record to 37/50 in the brown and gold.
4. Things you don’t see everyday – part one
You don’t see players losing teeth every day!
Tim O’Brien copped some friendly fire from Will Langford, and while he played out the game, he did have to wear his mouthguard on the plane home to keep his tooth in place.
5. Crafty Breust at his best
Two moments of brilliance from Luke Breust lit up Launceston.
The first was a cheeky left-foot dribbler from the pocket, the second a sneaky kick-in intercept – both of which he slotted through the big sticks.
6. A month of Silk
Hawthorn’s big moment specialist, Shaun Burgoyne, is building beautiful towards the business end of 2016.
Burgoyne has been in stellar form the past month, and was the Hawks’ best against the Blyes with 25 disposals and five tackles.
7. Things you don’t see everyday – part two
Hawks fans and Blues fans don’t always see eye to eye, but on Saturday they did.
Love was in the air at Launceston, as a Carlton supporter proposed to a Hawthorn supporter in an amazing half-time moment.
8. Box Hill Hawks fall at final hurdle
A tough ask for Box Hill Hawks has got even tougher, after they fell at the final hurdle against Footscray Bulldogs on Saturday.
The Hawks now need to win all of their remaining four games – and hope for results to go their way – to feature in finals.
9. Woodward making up for lost time
While the result didn’t go to plan, Alex Woodward was sublime.
In his second senior VFL match this season, Woodward collected 32 disposals and 10 clearances to again be among the Hawks’ best.
10. Demons get it done
The Hawks’ four-game run to finals starts with the Demons this week.
The Demons will also carry winning form into the clash, after sneaking past Gold Coast Suns on Sunday.
