HAWTHORN duo and Devonport exports Graham Wright and Grant Birchall have been recognised by the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame.
Wright - the Hawks' Recruiting and List Manager - will be elevated to legend status at a Gala Dinner on July 1, while four-time premiership player Birchall will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Wright has been recognised for both his on and off-field achievements.
He played 201 games with Collingwood between 1988 and 1998, winning a premiership in 1990 and finishing runner-up in the Brownlow Medal in the same year.
Wright is now in his 10th year at Hawthorn, and played a key role in assembling the playing list which has won the past three premierships.
“It is one of those things I never thought much about to be honest, but when they told me I was rapt,” Wright told The Advocate.
“I’m not quite sure what it means in the big scheme of things, but it’s certainly an honour when you consider the other guys who are in there and how Tassie footy has produced so many great players over the years.
“I’ve had a lot of professional satisfaction out of the role (at Hawthorn) because you’re so personally attached to the players – It becomes part of your life.
“It’s never the same as playing, in a premiership, but I feel like I’ve got as much satisfaction out of what we’ve done here at Hawthorn as I ever did in playing in one with Collingwood.”
Birchall's list of achievements on the football field has been lengthy.
Since been recruited by Hawthorn with pick 14 in the 2005 National Draft, the silky-skilled left-footer has played in 227 AFL matches and four premiership wins.
Birchall was an All Australian in 2007, has finished top-three in the Peter Crimmins Medal on three occasions, and has twice represented Australia in International Rules series.
"I guess that is a little bit different, but to be inducted into the Tassie Hall of Fame is a huge honour, especially when you see the names that are already inducted," he told Fairfax Media on Tuesday.
"To be alongside some of those names is a huge honour and I'm very proud.
"This sits right up there for me.
"Obviously the premierships are very special, but to be recognised at this level is huge."
Former Hawthorn assistant coach - now Carlton coach - Brendon Bolton will also be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
