We’re into our fourth consecutive preliminary final after a big win over the Crows!
The Rundown
After being beaten by the West Coast Eagles in a qualifying final in Perth the week before, Hawthorn were out to make amends in their semi-final at the MCG against an in-form Adelaide Crows outfit.
The reigning premiers delivered an emphatic statement in the first term, booting eight goals to equal their best first-quarter performance in a final.
The Hawks added a further three goals in the second quarter to extend the margin to 45 points at the main break.
Hawthorn stretched the lead further after half-time, kicking ten second-half goals to Adelaide’s four in a confidence boosting win.
The Star
Luke Breust got past the Adelaide defence all night, finishing with 18 disposals, seven marks and six goals in a best on ground display.
Luke Hodge responded from a quiet game the week before against the Eagles with 24 disposals and four goals while Sam Mitchell also had another big performance with 33 disposals.
The Moment
After receiving the ball from Taylor Duryea at half forward, Isaac Smith burned off two Adelaide players to run onto his left side and kick a rousing goal which set the tone for Hawthorn’s dominant opening quarter.
