Former number one draft pick Jonathon Patton will officially join the brown and gold family in 2020.
After eight seasons with the Giants, the Hawks completed a trade with Greater Western Sydney that sees the key-forward join the club in exchange for a future fourth round pick.
Patton showed the competition what he was capable with hauls of 38 goals and 45 goals in 2016 and 2017 respectively, before suffering an ACL rupture midway through the 2018 season.
Hawthorn’s GM-Football Graham Wright said the club is confident the 26-year-old will become a solid contributor up-forward for the Hawks.
“We are really excited about the versatility he brings to our forward line, and at just 26 years of age we feel like he still has his best footy ahead of him,” said Wright.
“Jon’s obviously had some injury issues in the past but he’s been in full training at the Giants for the back half of season 2019; he’ll be ready to begin pre-season training once our group come back after the break.
“We look forward to Jon having a fulfilling career at Hawthorn.”
With 89 games to his name and a Rising Star nomination in 2014, the Victorian-born Patton is an exciting addition to the Hawks line-up.
Patton has booted 130 goals across his 89 games and was the Giants leading goalkicker in 2017.
