While we'd usually be celebrating Easter with another epic instalment of 'The Greatest Show' in football, this year we're doing the next best thing.
In the countdown of the Top 10 clashes between the Hawks and the Cats, the 2000 Elimination Final comes in at number 10.
Winning four of its last five games of the home and away season, Hawthorn had stormed its way home to claim a finals berth after missing out on September action for the past three years.
The game itself was a tight tussle for the entire journey. The margin never extended beyond single digits.
A relatively young Hawthorn side outside of 35-year-old stalwart Paul Salmon, it was the likes of 25-year-old pair Shane Crawford and John Barker who stood up.
The reigning Brownlow Medallist, Crawford was among the side’s best with 20 touches and two goals, while Barker proved the difference being the only player to kick more than two goals, proving a handful with four goals.
Despite being an unforgettable game, the calibre of clashes between these two sides means the 2000 Elimination Final has only just cracked the top 10.
