While we'd usually be celebrating Easter with another epic instalment of 'The Greatest Show' in football, this year we're doing the next best thing.

In the countdown of the Top 10 clashes between the Hawks and the Cats, Round 17 2009 comes in at number 9...

Since their Grand Final meeting the previous year, these sides had taken very different paths.

Intent on September redemption, the Cats had maintained their high level and, alongside the Saints, were clearly the two best sides in the competition while the Hawks were amidst an infamous premiership hangover.

Yet, as is so often the case when these two sides meet, recent form mattered little in this one.

A punishing second quarter saw the Hawks take a 14-point lead into half-time with Lance Franklin leading the way with four first-half goals.

The Hawks built on this lead again in the third quarter. Despite seeming to be in the box seat to claim an unlikely victory, the Cats were able to overturn the margin.

With the game appearing to be set for a draw, Jimmy Bartel found himself taking a mark in the forward pocket seconds before the siren sounded.

The reigning Brownlow Medallist put the ball through for a behind but it mattered little – the Cats had won.
