While we'd usually be celebrating Easter with another epic instalment of 'The Greatest Show' in football, this year we're doing the next best thing.

In the countdown of the Top 10 clashes between the Hawks and the Cats, the 1991 Semi Final comes in at number 6...

At the end of Round 12, half-way through the 1991 season, Hawthorn didn’t look to be much chop.

They sat outside the top six and, put simply, didn’t look like much of a premiership threat at all. But then something clicked into gear.

The Hawks won 10 of their next 11 games to finish the home and away season second on the ladder.

They faced Geelong, a side they had faced just once throughout the season in Round 12 – just before the streak of success.

An interesting side note – this was the penultimate game of Michael Tuck’s illustrious career.

The Hawks got the jump on the Cats to take a 17-point lead into the main break.

But Geelong fought back strongly in the ‘premiership quarter’, winning the term by three goals to take the lead, albeit the slenderest of leads, into the final term.

The fourth quarter was a nail-biting affair with both sides determined to win their way through to the Grand Final.

But fate would have that it was once again Hawthorn’s prize to have as they saluted over the Cats by two points in what was yet another classic outing between these two sides.
