Hawks defender Brian Lake has undergone surgery to eliminate the side effects of a cyst at the back of his knee, which has been contributing to his recent calf problems.

Lake sat out the final quarter of Hawthorn’s win over St Kilda on Saturday after injuring his calf.

He also had a calf complaint during pre-season training.

The Club confirmed on Monday that last year’s Norm Smith Medallist would miss 3-4 weeks and today’s surgery is not expected to change that time frame.

Lake has played two games for Hawthorn this season, in rounds 6 and 7 after serving a three-match suspension from the Grand Final.
